Imnaha House. I spent two weeks here, near the Snake River and the Idaho-Oregon border, working on The Hearts of Horses in company with other writer friends Bette Lynch Husted, Leslie What, and Kelly Link. Spring 2005.

This was taken on Little Sheep Creek Highway, headed down to the Imnaha House. It was mid-April, and they were moving cows and new calves to pasture. We waited for the dogs to clear our car a path. Spring 2005.

I spent a couple of weeks in June, 2004, on the H Bar H Ranch in Soda Springs, Idaho—a beautiful working cattle ranch straddling the Oregon Trail. This was early in the writing of The Hearts of Horses. I wanted to be somewhere I could ride (and write) every day, and get reacquainted with horses after a couple of decades away. That's me in the middle between Hilary and Dorian Schninning. June 2004.
